James B. Nutter & Company is a family-owned Kansas City, Missouri, mortgage lending firm that serves clients across the United States. Founded in 1951 by James B. Nutter, Sr., the company was among the first in Kansas City to offer loans from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In subsequent years, James B. Nutter would become the first firm in America to facilitate a Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Senior Citizen Reverse Mortgage and effectively the first to test and institute Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) programs in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Under the current direction of James B. Nutter, Jr., the company supplies more FHA and VA mortgages than any other lending firm in Kansas City. As acting president and CEO, James B. Nutter, Jr., is proud to continue the family tradition of providing low-cost mortgage lending with an emphasis on personalized customer service. In recent years, his dedication to consumer advocacy has placed him at the forefront of industry experts, as he has spoken out early and often against sub-prime loans and other dangerous and exotic lending practices.
Outside of the lending office, Mr. Nutter is also proud to continue James B. Nutter & Company’s longstanding tradition of community involvement and charitable aid. Concentrating its efforts largely in its home state of Missouri, the family and firm have given generously to institutions and organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Children’s Mercy Hospital, and the Harry S Truman Library. James B. Nutter and Company has also been instrumental in restoring the historic midtown Kansas City neighborhood and commercial district where the company is domiciled. Among city residents, this fully revitalized and impressively landscaped neighborhood is now affectionately referred to as “Nutterville.”
